Engineered Binding Microenvironments in Halogen Bonding Polymers for Enhanced Anion Sensing

چکیده

Mimicking Nature's polymeric protein architectures by designing hosts with binding cavities screened from bulk solvent is a promising approach to achieving anion recognition in competitive media. Accomplishing this, however, can be synthetically demanding. Herein we present tractable approach, directly incorporating potent supramolecular anion-receptive motifs into scaffold, tuneable through judicious selection of the co-monomer. A comprehensive analysis and sensing demonstrated redox-active, halogen bonding hosts. Notably, consistently outperform their monomeric analogues, especially large halide enhancements ca. 50-fold observed aqueous-organic mixtures. These are rationalised generation presentation low dielectric constant microenvironments which there appreciable exclusion.

Halogen bonding-enhanced electrochemical halide anion sensing by redox-active ferrocene receptors.

The first examples of halogen bonding redox-active ferrocene receptors and their anion electrochemical sensing properties are reported. Halogen bonding was found to significantly amplify the magnitude of the receptor's metallocene redox-couple's voltammetric responses for halide sensing compared to their hydrogen bonding analogues in both acetonitrile and aqueous-acetonitrile solvent media.

Evidence for Halogen Bond Covalency in Acyclic and Interlocked Halogen-Bonding Receptor Anion Recognition

The synthesis and anion binding properties of novel halogen-bonding (XB) bis-iodotriazole-pyridinium-containing acyclic and [2]catenane anion host systems are described. The XB acyclic receptor displays selectivity for acetate over halides with enhanced anion recognition properties compared to the analogous hydrogen-bonding (HB) acyclic receptor. A reversal in halide selectivity is observed in ...

Neutral iodotriazole foldamers as tetradentate halogen bonding anion receptors.

Neutral tetradentate halogen bond donor foldamers were synthesised and exhibit enhanced anion affinities over their hydrogen bonding analogues, displaying iodide selectivity over lighter halide, carboxylate and dihydrogen phosphate anions. A foldamer with a chiral (S)-binaphthol motif was demonstrated to distinguish between enantiomers of chiral anions.

Halogen Bonding in Crystal Engineering

The structural features of a molecule are determined by the covalent bonds within the molecule. Modification of the structure requires the breaking and creation of covalent bonds. Similarly, the intrinsic reactivity of a molecule arises from the covalently bonded functional groups and active sites on a molecule. Again, changing the properties requires modifications of the covalent bonds. Even i...

Halogen- and hydrogen-bonding triazole-functionalised porphyrin-based receptors for anion recognition.

Iodotriazole and triazole anion recognition groups have been integrated into a picket-fence zinc(ii)-metalloporphyrin scaffold to produce receptors for anion recognition and sensing applications. (1)H NMR and UV/visible spectroscopic investigations reveal both host systems exhibit strong anion binding affinities in a range of solvent media. Importantly, the halogen-bonding iodotriazole-containi...
